A place to belong. A place to build.

About Beacon Clubhouse

Beacon Clubhouse is a member-led community where adults living with mental illness rebuild purpose, connection, and confidence — together.

We believe people are not defined by diagnosis. Everyone deserves a place to belong and a chance to contribute.

International Standards for Clubhouse Programs

The International Standards for Clubhouse Programs™, agreed upon by all our member Clubhouses, define the Clubhouse Model of rehabilitation. The Standards:

  • Are at the heart of the success experienced by Clubhouses around the world helping people with mental illness stay out of hospitals while achieving social, financial, educational, and vocational goals;
  • Serve as a “bill of rights” for members and a code of ethics for Clubhouse staff, boards and administrators, and a reminder that Clubhouses must be places that offer respect and opportunities to members;
  • Provide the basis for assessing Clubhouse quality through the Clubhouse International Accreditation™ process.

What Makes Beacon Different?

At Beacon, members are not passive participants — they are active contributors.

The community is built with members, not for them. Decisions, activities, and daily operations are shaped by the people who show up each day.

Staff are here to support, guide, and walk alongside — not to control or direct.

This creates ownership, confidence, and a sense of real belonging.

Beacon doesn’t define people by diagnosis, history, or challenges.

Instead of focusing on what’s “wrong,” we focus on what’s possible.

Every person who walks through the door has something to offer — skills, ideas, energy, creativity, perspective.

Here, people don’t come to be fixed.
They come to build something meaningful.

Beacon is built on connection, not reliance.

Members support one another, work together, and grow together.

Relationships are mutual — not one-sided.

The goal isn’t to create a system people depend on. It’s to create a community people are part of.

A place where support is shared, not assigned.

There are no “levels” of importance at Beacon.

Members and staff work alongside each other — whether that’s planning events, running daily operations, or simply sharing conversation.

Respect goes both ways. Contribution goes both ways.

Clubhouses are a partnership.

How it Works

Beacon is based on the internationally recognized Clubhouse model.

Members participate in the day-to-day work of the Clubhouse — from operations to events to outreach — building skills, confidence, and relationships along the way.

There are no labels, no ranks — just people working together.

WHAT MEMBERS CAN EXPECT

At Beacon Clubhouse, you can expect to be welcomed exactly as you are. This is a place built on respect, dignity, and understanding—where you are not defined by a diagnosis, a past experience, or a label. Membership is voluntary, and your journey here is your own. Whether you’re ready to jump in or just want to take things one step at a time, you’ll be met with support, not pressure.

Each day offers structure and purpose through what’s called the work-ordered day. This means members and staff work side-by-side to run the Clubhouse together. You might find yourself helping prepare meals, organizing projects, supporting outreach, or contributing to events. It’s real, meaningful work that helps build confidence and routine, but without the expectations or stress of a traditional job. You’re not a client here—you’re part of the team.

Beacon also provides support as you explore employment, education, or whatever your next step looks like. Whether that means getting help with a resume, preparing for interviews, finding a part-time Transitional Employment opportunity, or exploring school or training programs, you won’t have to figure it out alone. Support continues even after you take those steps, so you always have a place to come back to for guidance and encouragement.

Life doesn’t come with a manual, and sometimes the hardest part is navigating the systems around us. At Beacon, you can expect help with real-life needs like housing, transportation, benefits, and accessing healthcare or other services. When things feel overwhelming, you’ll have people in your corner to help you sort through it and move forward.

Your voice matters here. Members are part of the decision-making process, helping shape programs, activities, and the future of the Clubhouse. This isn’t a top-down organization—it’s a community built together. Your ideas, feedback, and perspective are not only welcomed, they’re essential.

Growth at Beacon happens at your pace. There are no timelines you have to meet and no pressure to be anything other than where you are right now. Over time, many members build confidence, develop new skills, form meaningful relationships, and move toward greater independence—but how that looks is different for everyone, and that’s respected.

Connection is a big part of what makes this place special. Beacon is a space where friendships are formed and where people find a sense of belonging. Through shared work, conversations, and activities, you become part of a community that genuinely cares. As the program grows, there will also be opportunities for social and recreational activities beyond the typical day.

Most importantly, this is a place you don’t lose. If life pulls you away for a while, you are always welcome back. Beacon is committed to staying connected, reaching out when needed, and being here through both the good times and the difficult ones. You always have a place here.

Join the Beacon Advisory Committee

Beacon Clubhouse is a member-driven community creating belonging, purpose, and pathways for adults living with mental illness. As we build this from the ground up in our community, we are looking for people who want to be part of something meaningful—something designed to last.

The Advisory Committee plays a vital role in shaping Beacon’s future. This is not a hands-on operational or clinical role. Instead, it’s about providing guidance, perspective, and connection. Committee members help strengthen community partnerships, offer insight that supports strong decision-making, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the Clubhouse through relationships, resources, and advocacy.

We are building a well-rounded Advisory Committee that includes mental health professionals, individuals with lived experience, and strong community voices. As Beacon grows, we are always looking to connect with people who bring different perspectives—whether your background is in mental health, business, leadership, public service, or community development. Because committee members serve rotating terms, we are continually building relationships with individuals who may be interested in serving now or in the future.

Beacon succeeds when it is deeply connected to the community it serves. The Advisory Committee helps ensure that connection stays strong and that this is not just something that launches—but something that grows, evolves, and continues to serve for years to come.

If you’re someone who wants to use your experience to make a lasting difference, we’d love to talk with you.
